Commissioned Corps

Dr. Morazan served as a dentist as a commissioned officer attaining the rank of Commander (O-5) while on active duty with the Commissioned Corps of the U. S. Public Health Service. The Commissioned Corps is one of the seven uniformed services of the U.S. Federal Government. The mission of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps is to protect, promote, and advance the health and safety of our Nation and Dr. Morazan is proud to have served our country in bringing dental health service to underserved patient populations in our society. The following is a listing of some of the awards and recognitions Dr. Morazan received while on his active duty tour:

Hazardous Duty Award

Awarded for his service in the Federal Bureau of Prisons at FMC Devens in Devens, Massachusetts

Public Health Service Citation

Awarded for being an Honors Graduate at the Introduction to Correctional Techniques Course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center

Unit Commendation

Awarded for participation in the dental student externship program with the Indian Health Service in Fort Defiance, Arizona

Outstanding Unit Citation

Awarded for his service in the relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana

Response Service Award

Awarded for deploying to assist the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton, California

Isolated Hardship Award

Awarded for his service in a designated isolated hardship duty station in Crownpoint, New Mexico

Crisis Response Service Award

Awarded for participating in the emergency response services after Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana

Public Health Service Citation

Awarded for clinical training in oral surgery techniques to US Army special forces medics
